After all of the hard work put into making the DVD sets, it is good to know that people are watching it and are generally (dare I say) impressed with the disc set. I returned to Kearney this past weekend to make a second round of sets, which I was successful in. Unfortunatley, due to a shipping error, I only had the materials for 13 sets, but I tried to deliver copies to those I missed the first time around. It was really fun to go visit some people that I really hadn't talked to since the ill-fated premiere back in July. Thankfully, everyone seemed just as excited to see the movie as they were last summer. Hopefully it will be enjoyed by them as well. Right now, I am awaiting the arrival of my lost shipment of DVD cases so that I can assemble more copies to distribute in Lincoln and elsewhere, in hopse that the movie's roots in Kearney can be extended to new soils.

Please be generous in terms of lending and loaning if you do have a copy and know people who really want to see it.

Update: If anyone would like a "Sequel" wallpaper, I've made one and posted it at my art page. I'm taking requests if anyone wants a different design using any other menu or cover artwork featured on the DVDs.

The Private Press

In short, it's done. Yesterday at around 6:30 PM, I finished the first batch of Sequel DVD sets. I am very proud of these DVDs and think that they are a really good representation of what the cast and I went through during the journey that has been The Sequel. I know that sounds a little too sentimental and profound when talking about a seemingly simple action/comedy such as The Sequel...but good movie or not...we still had to go through a lot of stuff to get this done. You really don't know the half of it. When viewing the DVDs as a whole, I think you get a very comprehensive look at the whole process of creating this movie and will gain a new appreciation for what has been created. Unfortunatley, I was only able to make a limited sets since so much resource goes into each set. As you see in the picture, these are heavy-duty 4-disc sets. The reasons I had to use to many were due to technological constraints, but as you can imagine, thats a lot of work. The first batch has DVDs for 10 people, which doesn't seem like much...but that's actually 40 discs! So, if you don't get a copy from this first batch, don't feel depressed or like I don't think you're important, its just that I have to be very selective as to whom I can give these first ones to, since copies for me and for the cast leave me with only a few to actually deal out. But more copies will be made soon, and they should be identical to these ones. That is unless there is some hidden defect in these discs and I need to fix something. So, more are on the way. But in the mean time, everyone in the cast has a DVD, so you could probably see one or borrow one if you really wanted to.

Unfinished Business

Screw the third person on this one. After returning home for break after a fairly chaotic few weeks of papers and exams, I am taking care of some unfinished business. Namely, The Sequel DVD. If you are still keeping a count, the movie was originally scheduled for a May 17 release...so that puts me at around 6 months behind. But I've spent an appropriate amount of time thinking of how behind I have become, so I'm shifting my focus. Currently, I am investing most of my time and energy into compiling a DVD set that will please all of those who have been waiting for the movie. The actual movie has been completed for some time, and any recent changes have been very minimal. I've mainly been working on how the DVDs will work logistically, what to put on what discs, and the overall creation of the DVD package that includes the movie, special features, and commentaries. I've had a lot of different aspects that I have been working on, and a substantial amount still needs to be done, but as each minute passes, I am closer than ever to a real release. Again--there are still a lot of things that need to get done, so don't get too excited just yet. But do expect to here more on the subject soon.

Where's My MF'ing Movie?

Audiences everywhere are being held in suspense as they try to learn more about the release of "The Sequel." The most common question submitted to finishthemovie.blogspot.com? "Where's my MF'ing movie!?" Despite all of the legwork being done here, we have little new information regarding the release. Director John Albrecht has seemed to have dropped off the radar, so to speak. Insider reports are conflicting, but seem to indicate that Albrecht is spending some more time on sound design and effects. One new breakthrough was had last night as spies claim to have seen the reclusive filmmaker and star Zach Liibbe at a local cafe! Liibbe, now with long hair and a full beard, was nearly unrecognizable as the "Sequel" villain Francois DuFour. The two seemed to be discussing the movie and catching up on recent events. This sighting ends speculation that the director and star had been feuding ever since the exhausting end of principal photography. As for the other cast members, they have been seen taking notes from the near-final cut, perhaps jotting down suggestions. It seems that some unwanted operatives have gotten their hands on "The Sequel" and leaked the film to others. Albrecht has been quoted in saying that a few people he has never even met before have approached him to talk about seeing the movie. What will he do for retaliation? Let's just say that turncoats might want to beware of those paintball gun receipts that we dug out of Albrecht's trash.

The Return of the Sequel

The spies here at the official Sequel blog have had quite a busy weekend. There were following "Sequel" director John Albrecht all throughout Omaha this past weekend as he sought out some relaxation from the recently hectic schedule of the film's eminent release. He could be seen at the AMC 24 all day, as he attempted to break his record of movies watched at the theater in one day. He did not break his record, which is five, but quality over quanity, they say (Hustle & Flow and March of the Penguins were reportedly great). Meanwhile, back in Analog City (Kearney, NE), cast members and a handful of lucky friends were able to watch a near-final build of "The Sequel." So, is it good? Early buzz seems to indicate that it is indeed a crowd pleaser. Official reviews have not been written or released, but the early consensus seems to be that, while the movie doesn't work 100% of the time, it definitely has its moments. So when will you be able to watch "The Sequel"? Scouts at the Albrecht estate have confirmed that Albrecht recently returned from his trip and is back in the editing suite (his bedroom) fro the time being. Since the cast has seen the movie, they can be expected to lay down a commentary track soon, with a dvd release very soon after. Visit again soon for more information.

...F**K

Well, last night was the premiere of "The Sequel," but it would be untrue to say that it went off without a hitch. Much to the opposite, some would say. The major problem with the event was the sound system, distored more than half of the dialogue in the movie. It also seemed that the clock caught up with Albrecht as he was unable to burn a finished DVD of the latest cut, and he was forced to show a week-old "beta" version. Albrecht comments, "The whole audio thing really was unfortunate, because it's hard for the audience to enjoy anything which they can't understand." On a positive note, Albrecht stated that the sound problem was exclusive to this showing, and that the sound is great on a regular TV and DVD player. Energy was still very high, however, as the cast members in the audience could be heard saying their dialogue to each other in real-time when the audio malfunctioned. "It was like an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000," Albrecht laughed. So, what did the audience think? Many sincere compliments could be heard given to Albrecht as he explained that this was not the way they were suppose to see it. The audience seemed to understand, and is now maybe even more excited than before to see "The Sequel" in its full glory. "They will really enjoy the real "Sequel," because they will be able to hear it! I've also made some changes to the film itself from the cut that they saw, which will augment the movie, as a whole," Albrecht concluded. The audience was treated to a special guest before the show, Bill Tangeman of "Starbucking" fame. He was there to show off his first trailer, and he also killed some time for Albrecht by having a discussion with the audience. It seems that Tangeman brings excitement wherever he goes, as a NTV reporter was brought in at his request to do a segment on "The Sequel." The story aired that night on NTV News at 10, much to the enjoyment of Albrecht. "The whole TV thing was crazy. It was cool to see footage of my movie being broadcasted, and having a news anchor talk about me." After anchor Seth Denney finsihed talkig about the premiere, he was asked by the resident sports reporter about what we be the name of a sequel to "The Sequel." "The Sequel-Sequel," Denney replied. Look for The Sequel-Sequel in Summer 2008! Just kidding. The NTV segement was recorded and will be part of the special features on "The Sequel" home DVD. SO when will the DVD be ready for viewing? "As soon as the movie is just the way I want it, and the cast comes over to do a commentary." Translation: "I don't know, but probably in a week or something." For more on the premiere, check out Tangeman's photo gallery http://homepage.mac.com/billtangeman/PhotoAlbum39.html. He finally emerged for some fresh air at around 6 AM, with a satisfied look on his face. It seems that it will only be hours before eager audiences will share his delight. Remember that the premiere will be held tonight at 7 PM at the Fort Theatre.

Meanwhile...

While fans are being informed of the premiere of "The Sequel," director John Albrecht is still putting the finishing touches on the film. It is now a race against the clock for him. But worry not, after the first attempt's catastrophe and disappointment, Albrecht is taking measure to ensure that such an event will not happen again. You would be a fool to bet against him for July 18 as the premiere. So what is Albrecht doing? Before the film can be shown, a tedious process of producing video files to compile onto a DVD must be performed. But before that, the movie has to be done! "See you on the eighteenth!" he shouts.

The Premiere: It's Official

An informant linked to John Albrecht has learned that, in fact, the premiere of "The Sequel" is set! The film will be shown at the Fort Theatre (in Downtown Kearney) at 7 PM on Monday, July 18! The official entrance will be at the back of the building, through the alleyway. Attendees are being told to gather near the north back door for what will undoubtedly be a night to remember. Those with questions may want to call Albrecht's secret new number at 308-293-3715. Enthusiasts of all ages are invited to attend.

Post-Production Wrap-Up

Over the past few weeks, "The Sequel" has undergone some extensive editing, hopefully for the best. Despite having an initial release date of May 17, and being now almost two months late, it seems the "The Sequel" is becoming close to completion. Word on the street is that there could be a premiere as early as next week and that DVDs could go on sale soon after. Again, only speculation. Director John Albrecht has been sited going in and out of the Fort Theatre, reportedly negotiating with the infamous Dr. Martin and performing sound checks. Could this mean that the movie is done? Only time will tell.
